TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE: LAND USE, REFUSE AND SEWAGE SYSTEMS & DRAINAGE

Design and works supervision for the public use development of the “Diafarana-kô” natural collector in the westernmost area of downtown Bamako

Description :

The project included:

The construction of gabion and mortared flagstone retaining walls over a distance of 7 km;

The construction of two concrete vehicular bridges and six footbridges;

The road and drainage works connecting to these crossings (4 km) ;

The paving with local flagstone of the pedestrian walkway along the collector and exterior lighting;

The construction of thirty neighbourhood squares and fenced-in green spaces;

The construction of small neighbourhood sewage systems to prevent black water evacuation toward the collector.

 
The project included four phases:

Phase 1:    Collector retaining wall design;

Phase 2:    Supervision of construction of the above design;

Phase 3:    Design of the neighbourhood squares and green areas, bridges and footbridges and design of the neighbourhood sewage systems;

Phase 4:    Supervision of the construction of the bridges and footbridges.

Description :

The project consisted in the development of decision tools essential to the definition of a refuse control strategic plan to manage all different types of refuse and to provide a healthy, un-polluted, and garbage-free living environment for the people of greater Kita.
